Many thanks for your support.
The desire for peace is growing stronger in response to the increasing number of wars, which are becoming chronic and reaching unacceptable levels of inhuman violence against civilians and defenseless people. To give space and voice to this desire, once again this year, AVSI chooses peace as its central theme.
AVSI operates on the ground, through daily gestures woven with patience and, for many colleagues working in remote and dangerous places, with courage. Our action begins by listening to the needs of the most vulnerable and gradually builds through a constant presence alongside people and communities, through relationships cultivated with vigilance and attention to each person’s dignity.
The Tents Campaign, now in its 30th year, aims this year to raise funds, in particular, for emergency management or development projects in Palestine, Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan.
In Palestine, AVSI raises funds to support Gazan families by collaborating with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to provide aid and essential goods distributed through the Holy Family parish. In the West Bank, it collaborates with the Custody of the Holy Land to pay for school fees, extracurricular Psychosocial support-oriented activities, prevention of school dropouts, and courses for the psychosocial support of children and their families.
In Ukraine, AVSI operates with an integrated approach that combines education, child protection, and psychosocial support in Community Centers, safe spaces that offer recreational activities, after-school programs, psychological support, and assistance to parents.
In Syria, where years of instability and war have caused the collapse of the healthcare system, AVSI has launched the ‘Open Hospitals’ project, offering free treatment in two hospitals in Damascus and one in Aleppo. In 2024, the initiative evolved into the Dispensaries of Hope project: six local healthcare facilities, easily accessible even from the most isolated villages, offer medical examinations, diagnostic tests, medicines, psychological support, and training for local staff. It is estimated that by 2026, the project will reach over 60,000 people.
In Lebanon, AVSI is present in the south of the country with the Fadaii center, a large and welcoming facility designed by architect Mario Botta, who donated the project. There, AVSI organizes remedial education courses, psychosocial support, recreational activities, and summer camps, distributes humanitarian aid, and coordinates reconstruction projects with local stakeholders. To date, the center hosts over 1,300 children and their families.
In Jordan, AVSI has launched a project to raise awareness among young people and the local community about the beauty and history of the country, with the aim of enhancing collective memory. The initiative focuses on safeguarding cultural heritage, with particular attention to Christian monuments and archaeological sites, through educational and training courses aimed at approximately 1,200 high school students, university students, and scout groups.
